Calgary International Convention
Jul. 25, 2025 12:50 p.m.
CALGARY (25 June 2025) – As Rotary’s international convention in Calgary draws to a close, Rotary members and participants from over 140 countries will bring home indelible memories, renewed connections, and an inspired sense of purpose for helping to create a healthier and more peaceful world. This week, Rotary announced the extension of its joint commitment of up to US$450 million with the Gates Foundation to end polio, a Rotary-led peacebuilding program to help strengthen communities affected by conflict in Colombia, and a partnership with Symbiosis International University to establish a Rotary Peace Center in India. Rotary members throughout the world develop and implement sustainable, community-driven projects that fight disease, promote peace, provide clean water, support education, help mothers and children, grow local economies and protect the environment. Over US $5.5 billion has been awarded through The Rotary Foundation to support these and other programs worldwide over the last 100 years. |

Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83856308161?pwd=VdsyTD7AtCCJa1hMWjKWr9axXavmIs.1&jst=2 Dear friends and partners, We’re excited to invite you to a special Zoom event on Monday, July 28 at 8:00 AM CST, spotlighting the transformational work underway in Nyasumi Village, Kenya—the community co-adopted by the Rotary Clubs of LaGrange and Oak Park/River Forest. This virtual visit is a chance to see our Community Health & Empowerment Club (CHEC) model in action and learn how our Adopt-a-Village program is creating a replicable model for sustainable change across Kenya. Nyasumi’s CHEC is a powerful example of local leadership, improved health practices, thriving kitchen gardens, savings groups, and economic empowerment. We’re especially honored to be joined in person in Kenya by Cindy Rold, Rotary District 5450 Governor (Colorado) and longtime member of the Rotary Club of Littleton. Cindy will be visiting Nyasumi along with several fellow Rotarians from Colorado and Kenya. We’re incredibly lucky to have her on the ground to witness firsthand how Rotary is helping to transform lives in this community. During the Zoom, we’ll:
If connectivity in Kenya is limited, we’ll instead share a short 10-15 minute U.S.-based presentation highlighting the progress in Nyasumi and offering a deeper look at the CHEC model and our broader efforts across Kenya. Whether you’ve been involved from the start or are just learning about our work, we’d love for you to join us. 📍 Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83856308161?pwd=VdsyTD7AtCCJa1hMWjKWr9axXavmIs.1&jst=2 Feel free to share this link with others who might be interested in seeing the CHEC model in action. With gratitude,
Mimi Gordon Director of Marketing Global Health Connections |

Polio
Oct. 24, 2025 12:15 p.m.
Since 2012 October 24th has been designated as World Polio Day. On this day Rotary International along with our partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) acknowledged the tremendous progress that has been made towards the goal of eradicating polio. While at the same time stressing the importance of completing the promise made to the world over forty years ago.
Because the wild polio virus has been eliminated from the United States since 1994 the subject of the effects of polio are mostly out of mind for our population. Many times, when club members are asked "what is the number one priority of Rotary International" they do not know. Also, when a similar question is asked to the general population, most of those under 50 do not know about polio. We as leaders of our clubs need to do a better job of educating our members and in turn the public in general.
District 5470 has set an annual goal of $1,500 from each club to Polio Plus. Donations can be from a combination of members and the club. Remember this is only a goal not required by the district.
